Advanced Presentation Techniques

A two-day course for PhD students

The presentation skills course helps
you deliver professional scientific presentations.

WE WORK ON YOUR PRESENTATIONS TOGETHER WITH YOU.
OUR GOAL IS FOR YOU TO GIVE EXCELLENTSCIENTIFIC PRESENTATIONS - AND ENJOY IT!

Content:

This 2-day course is based on your presentations, and you will receive personal guidance and coaching on your performance, including feedback on slides, the narrative structure, your body language, your use of language and use of voice.

We will help you expand your comfort zone when talking to a variety of audiences, and we will teach you to create value for them.

During the course, you will hold two presentations. This may be a standard scientific presentation, a short teaching sequence or a poster presentation. The presentation you give on the first day is the same presentation you will give on the second day – giving you an opportunity to demonstrate how your skills have improved.

The course is held over two days, with a week’s gap between day one and two, giving you time to think about and practice skills learned on the first day. You will receive a video recording of your presentation and feedback, which you can use as inspiration when preparing your presentation for the second day of the course.

Your own presentations constitute the foundation of this course. The instructor will introduce key principles, tools and methods that you can apply immediately to improve your performance.

Focal points are:

    • Structuring a presentation

    • Clarity of message

    • Improvisation techniques

Testimonials:

"Thanks again for an effective presentation workshop.

Last week I attended a CBS workshop where we pitched our PhD project to a panel of judges.

I incorporated some of the techniques from your presentation workshop (explaining the relevance to the audience, introducing myself and the department, starting and ending with the main message, using gestures (listing the three most important results with fingers), slow and calm voice, pauses). I received positive feedback on all the above points and received an award for best pitch.

So thank you so much for the effective tools and for making me think about what's important when giving a presentation."

After several years all we can say is that your courses are still a resounding success, and I can add that it is with great satisfaction that I see how the course participants use what they have learned and become much better at writing articles.

I had a very productive time, learned about writing, and enjoyed the social aspects of this retreat as well. It was well structured without being overloaded, and, thus, leaving sufficient time for deep work.It could be a good idea to have something like this as a regular event, i.e., annually.
